Road and Weather Information

A Road Weather Information System (RWIS) is comprised of environmental sensor stations in the field, a communication system for data transfer and a central system to collect field data from numerous stations.

These stations measure atmospheric, pavement and/or water level conditions. Central RWIS hardware and software are used to process observations from these stations to develop now casts or forecasts, and relay the information to displays to warn drivers of bad weather conditions such as heavy fog, floods and snow storms.
